PILPG Affiliated Expert Amjad Atallah Travels to Sudan to Advise on Darfurian Peace Process
January 16, 2007

Amjad Atallah, PILPG Affiliated Expert and President of Strategic Assessments, recently traveled with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson to Sudan to make a new push at jumpstarting the peace process between the Sudanese government and the Darfurian rebels.

On 10 January 2007, following three days of negotiations facilitated by Governor Richardson, Mr. Atallah, and the rest of their delegation, the rebels and the government agreed to a 60 day cease-fire and a basic roadmap for the continuation of the peace process.

Mr. Atallah traveled with the delegation in his capacity as advisor to the Save Darfur Coalition, with which he is working on strategies to broaden the campaign's outreach internationally, including expanding advocacy efforts into public diplomacy.

About Strategic Assessments

Strategic Assessments is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, established in March 2004, seeking to bridge the gap between conflict management — as embodied in humanitarian assistance, development work and peace operations — and conflict resolution, which demands a greater investment of political will.

Toward that end, Strategic Assessments runs three innovative programs that link on-the-ground practicalities with the broader political concerns of the major stakeholders. By tying together the practical and the political, the theoretical and the real, and the scholarly and the applied, Strategic Assessments fills a neglected niche in the policy world. These programs include Scenario Planning; Peace, Culture, and Media; and Capacity Building and Stabilization.
